I have recently wanted to become a more creative Bartender, and when our crew moved to a new place with a new name it was the kick in the arse I needed to become more adventurous in the way of cocktails.
One afternoon, something wonderful showed up on my computer screen amid all the gross peach-foo-foo and douchey mcdoucherton drinks..it was a picture of a green bloody mary. GREEN! That sounded amazing, and no one else out here has those, so I decided that I had to check it out, make some, and convince the Boss that we needed to run these IMMEDIATELY!
About a month later (yeah, that's how I roll) I bought a whole bunch of produce. Tomatillos, celery, cucumber, cilantro, bell pepper, jalapenos, and probably some other stuff that I can't remember off hand, and made this delicious green juice! It was amazing! Not quite ready to be called a bloody mary mix yet, but I probably could have lifted a bus off the ground after drinking some...it was Popeye Power in a glass. It needed to be "watered" down with booze or it could be dangerous. But first, I needed the help of my coworker, Chef Ed.
I brought the magic green juice down to Lucy's Lounge (the name of our new place, for those of you that don't know me personally) and we started adding stuff. Horseradish (I'm a huge fan), celery salt, Tabasco (Wait, wont that turn it a gross color? Actually, no), Worcestershire sauce, more horseradish, more stuff that I can't recall and then I remembered the green Tabasco! That would be perfect! Turns out we didn't have any (I accidentally let it slip to the wait staff that we had half a bottle of it stashed in the bar then it mysteriously disappeared but whatever), but I'm using that next time.
ANYway, it turned out freaking awesome, so when I could convince someone to try a nice green bloody mary, I was kind of stoked. So I sold more. Then more. Then it was gone and I had forgotten to save some for the Boss to try. What is great is that the people who have tried them, AND friends that have seen them on Facebook but haven't tried them yet are coming in and asking me about them, so of course I am going to make more. I just have to get to the store and get the supplies, which I will do soon.
I guess this is my very long winded way of saying that Lucy's will have the green marys back this weekend.
